Welcome Letter from Erin

Welcome to the Steveston Health Collective! We’re happy that you’ve made your way here. I have lived and worked in Steveston since 2010 and love our community. As a child, my family visited Richmond from our home in Bermuda every few years because my grandparents lived here. Then when I moved to BC in 2010, my grandmother reminded me that as a Bermudian, Steveston would be the  perfect place for me to live because it had a similar feel to Bermuda- by the water with a small-town, touristy ambiance. She was right! The moment I drove into the village, it felt like home.

Steveston’s location at the mouth of the Fraser River makes for great salmon fishing and the town has an interesting history and diversity. The artwork in the clinic, by local artist Odile Gagne, highlights this with its vibrant and nautical feel. And funnily enough, when colour-matching the blue in our logo, the match was “Bermuda Blue” paint. So we’re all aligned!

Our heron, a single-line drawing, was hand-drawn by our very own Lisa, manager of operations! I love its simplicity, grace and stillness. The heron is not always a picture of elegance however.  If you’ve ever seen a heron take off or land, it is a comical mess of awkwardness and instability; but once it gets flying, the heron is a most beautiful thing to watch.

To me, the heron symbolizes life- many messy, awkward and unstable parts, many beautiful periods of stable flight and many moments of stillness, simplicity and standing tall in pride of accomplishment.

It has been my dream for the past 10 years to create a multidisciplinary clinic with a stellar team of practitioners. The Steveston Health Collective is the beginning of this dream! I have been building this network of practitioners and am very excited for you to meet and work with them. Although it is not feasible for some members of the team to work here in Steveston, they are either in Vancouver or just a phone call away.

So please, read through the bios and stop in to say hi! We look forward to seeing you and helping you to navigate your health concerns in the best way possible.
